Comparative Developmental Psychology: How is Human Cognitive Development Unique?

Psychology and biology. Research using this approach has already made important contributions to our understanding of the human mind. Indeed, the results discussed here highlight that models of human cognitive evolution must integrate data on cognitive development in other species in order to draw strong inferences about what traits are unique to our lineage.

The fields of developmental and comparative psychology both seek to illuminate the roots of adult cognitive systems. Developmental studies target the emergence of adult cognitive systems over ontogenetic time, whereas comparative studies investigate the origins of human cognition in our evolutionary history.
